"Today I Didn't Have to Use My AK" - Ice Cube

It's been a while!!!!! I've had quite a few people either ask me when I was going to post another blog, or get on me for not staying current (Dai)! Let's begin...

As many of you know, I walk a fine line when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. I own a shotgun, but don't believe in guns for other purposes...like...killing people. I want everyone to really think long and hard about what I'm about to ask: are guns such as AK-47's necessary to protect your home? To protect you?

Done thinking? If you answered "yes" to the question, you may want to stop reading now. Two nights ago in the District (that's Washington, D.C. for my out of town readers), there was a shooting where 4 people were killed, and another 5 injured. They group was gathered mourning the shooting death of another young person who was only 19 when he was killed. The shooters opened fire from a van in retaliation for a stolen bracelet. They opened fire with an AK-47...and no, it was not Ice Cube. Really people, let's just think about this for a second. Are these types of guns necessary, and should they be allowed on the streets, anywhere???

I have waivered back and forth on handguns, but the bottom line is that these assault rifles are made for one reason...to kill people. People! I really think that we have reached a time of crisis here. The bottom line is that there are certain guns that should be outlawed, and why not? Because the 2nd Amendment says that you can own one? I don't think that the Framers had any idea that guns would become this advanced, and how could they?

Before you tell me "guns don't kill people", I would ask you this: during that drive by shooting two nights ago, how many of these people would have been killed if the guy in the van had a knife? How many more young people need to die? Have you ever watched 'First 48'? That show would not exist if it was not for guns. 99% of the murders on that show are gun related, and maybe 1% of those are from shotguns.

Again, I'm not against the right to bear arms, but I am against the right to bear arms that are solely made for the purpose of killing people. I'll be a little more upbeat in my next post, and I'll try to make it next week!

Ok...first...big ups to putting your thoughts in print...trust me I get it...I haven't written since the 90s!!!

Which brings me to this point...I live in PA...I work in the small town of New Oxford where guns and gun safety are probably taught at each baby shower. My views have shifted. I never even considered owning a gun...I do now...I have that right. However, AKs and anything requiring a silencer has only ONE purpose...to kill Bill or Ted, or Lil Black...u get the idea.
